Coffee production in the Department of Huila is unique to say the least. Smallholders make up the majority of coffee production due to the mountainous environment and size of farms averaging around 5 hectares. Due to farm sizes being super small, most farmers focus on quality over quantity in order to compete with other neighboring growing regions in Colombia. The region is known for its very high quality cup of excellence winning lots and has a denomination of origin status based on it’s unique qualities as a unique growing region. One would expect to find consistently good acidity, tropical aromas, and tons of good body.
