Josefina & Mario - El Divino Niño, Jinotega
Josefina, Mario Gonzalez, and their seven children live a hike away from the main road, transporting their coffee on horseback from their mountain farm, where they've been since 1985. Every picking season, Gold Mountain treks to their farm and stays until the harvest is complete. Along with coffee, the family tends to chickens, a horse, a pig, and enjoys a small waterfall that flows year-round. The Gonzalez’s strictly grow Caturra Estrella and Catuai, which are known for their distinct yellow peach notes that shine during cuppings.
Caturra Estrella is a new and rare variety that boasts sweet sugar and ripe stone fruit flavors. It is derived from Caturra and was designed to be more resistant to diseases and coffee rust but failed both of those goals.
