UCR Surf Hat - Altadena is Unincorporated

“Living in and starting a business in an unincorporated area is like living in the wild west.  There’s a whole different set of rules.  It’s unpredictable and undefined. Which we have always loved because it has meant that we got to create our own lane, our own way of doing things.” Being from an unincorporated place, somewhere open and on the margins, fosters a kind of individual spirit. It’s an experience that everyone from an unincorporated part of LA knows. And we’ve seen so much of this spirit in how the Altadena community moved through these past two harrowing months. We’ve seen it in the systems of support that the community has built for itself where there were none. In the care and love that reverberate out across this community, a love and care rooted in real relationships. And we hope to see it rebuild this incredible community that means so much to so many. This hat is an homage to everything Altadena is, was,
and will be.
